Hopkins awaits extradition

On Sept. 23, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a breaking, entering and larceny at a residence on Loop Road, Belhaven.

As a result of an investigation, a second victim was identified and stolen property recovered.

Investigator Rob Voliva obtained warrants charging Christopher Paul Hopkins, 28, of Pamlico Beach Road, Belhaven, with felony breaking and/or entering, larceny after breaking/entering and obtaining property by false pretense. Hopkins was entered into the national criminal database as a wanted person.

On Thursday, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Chincoteague Police Department in Virginia. Hopkins had been located aboard a fishing boat in the Chesapeake Bay by the Coast Guard. Hopkins was detained by the Coast Guard and later turned over to the Chincoteague Police Department. Hopkins was served with outstanding arrest warrants and confined to the Accomack County Detention Center. He is awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
